How To Find, Download, and Install Firefox Extensions, Add-ons and Plugins

Firefox is a browser that is very popular and a great alternative to Internet Explorer. It allows you to open multiple webpages within the same program and runs much faster than IE.

Firefox also has something called Extensions or Add-ons. Extensions are small programs that have been created by many people who found a problem and created a solution with an extension. They are usually free to download and free to use.

Firefox extensions are something that you download and then install through Firefox.

Before you can install an extension you will need to find one that will solve a problem or enhance your Internet experience.

The best place to find Firefox extensions is through Firefox itself.

Follow this link to visit the Firefox Extension Directory at addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox

You can search through the Categories on the left-hand side of the screen or do a search if you know the name of the extension.

One of my favorite free Firefox extensions is Next Tab.

About Next Tab: When you open a new tab in Firefox it automatically goes to the end of the list of tabs you already have open. That can be annoying if you have a lot of tabbed windows open. I like this extension because it allows me to open a new tab right next to the current tab. When you right-click on a link, you will get an option to "open the link next to current tab" in the context menu. Click on it and the tab will be opened right next to the current tab.

Step by Step Instructions

Once you find the extension you want to use you will need to download and install it.

1. Click Add to Firefox.

2. After 3 seconds click the Install Now button.

3. Click Restart Firefox once the install is complete.

4. To locate the extensions you have installed click on the Tools menu and then Add-ons.

5. If an extension isn't working properly or you don't want to use it any more just click on the name of the extension in the Add-on window and click Disable or Uninstall. You will have to restart Firefox for that extension to be disabled or uninstalled.
