WEBSITE PROMOTION Search engine ranking - more than meta keywords Well, adding meta keywords is a start and should not be ignored. However, many people are under the mistaken impression that adding meta keywords to their pages is all that needs to be done in order insure the page ranks well. This is simply not true. In fact, not all of the major engines will even read your meta keywords. Some, simply ignore them. Meta keywords are part of the puzzle, but it is the overall content of your page that will help determine your rank. Title tag, body text, heading, links, even your graphic's alt tags (to name a few) can be read by an engine and considered when determining where to rank your page in a given search. So, when designing a promotional page for a search engine, be sure to develop a "theme" by using the important words and phrases you are targeting in multiple areas of the page. This will help the engine recognize what terms you consider relevant and can have a significant positive effect on the rank of your pages. |
